Join us for our monthly open mic night at the library! All writers, poets, and musicians, as well as listeners are invited to the Moultonborough Public Library’s Poetry and Music evening events, held this fall September, October, and November from 6-8pm.
Singer-songwriter Gary Cassidy will perform as this month’s featured artist.
Gary Cassidy got his first guitar, a semi-acoustic Guild, as a gift from his parents at the age of 10. Originally from Lexington, Massachusetts, the Cassidy family summered in East Andover, where Gary moved full-time when he was 18.
He played in several local bands before teaming up with guitarist and songwriter Don Severance in 1978. They played clubs, concerts and parties throughout New England full-time into the mid ‘80s. The duo recorded one album, “Severance and Cassidy,” featuring a mix of folk, country blues and rock, with harmonies reminiscent of Simon and Garfunkel and Crosby, Stills and Nash. After eight years on the road, he stopped touring and put his guitar away while raising two young sons and working as a painter and boatbuilder. Twenty-five years later, he picked up where he left off, working on cover songs and writing his own music. John Prine, Guy Clark and Townes van Zandt have been major influencers over the years. Think folk, country blues and Americana. Gary is a frequent performer at the Andover NH CoffeeHouse, runs a Song Circle in Andover and performs with other friends throughout the region. Unfortunately, his wife of 25 years, Gail Fitzpatrick, succumbed to cancer in 2023. Despite his loss, he carries on with his craft, his home projects, his new grandaughter, his dog Juneau and the garden at his self-built timber frame home on a country road.
